Arnie's Model Trains - NMRA Awards Banquet

Join us on Saturday for an evening of food, fun, and recognition at the NMRA Awards Banquet! The evening begins with a social hour, including a cash bar. We will then be seated for the Awards Banquet, which features recognition by the NMRA for outstanding achievement in several categories.

Our menu includes:

  • Braised Boneless Short Ribs, served with grilled asparagus, baby carrots, and mashed potatoes.
  • Frenched Chicken Forestier with Mushroom Ragout and Port Wine Sauce, served with grilled asparagus, baby carrots, and mashed potatoes.
  • Stuffed Acorn Squash (vegan/gluten free option) with onions, red bell pepper, mushrooms, sautéed spinach, zucchini, yellow squash, sweet potatoes, sun dried tomatoes, and quinoa with red pepper coulis.

Salad, dessert, regular and decaf coffee, and hot or iced tea are included.

After the banquet, in true Hollywood style, we will have an after party, with music, dancing, and a cash bar. All in all, an outstanding conclusion to an outstanding convention!

John Stevens

Besides model trains, John is into planes in a big way…a 1:1 way. After graduating from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1976, he went into pilot training and spent over nine years flying KC-135’s and T-43’s. He left the Air Force in 1985 to join Delta Air Lines. He retired after flying for Delta for over 32 years finishing his career as a B-737-700/800/900 Captain with over 22,000 hours of flying time.

John joined the NMRA in 1997, and quickly became the Good & Welfare Chair for the Southeast Region’s Piedmont Division. He was elected SER Secretary in 2004, a position he held for four years. He was also appointed NMRA National Boy Scout Coordinator. In 2008 he was appointed National Assistant Secretary, and took over the Secretary position in 2012 serving for six years.  In 2018, he was elected Vice President Administration, a position he held for three years.  In the spring of 2022, he was appointed Howell Day Museum Department Manager.  In 2023, he was presented the NMRA Honorary Life Membership award.

John is currently building a HO layout in the basement of his house based on Pan Am Railways along the southern ME coast up through the mountains of NH.

 John will discuss the history of “The Magic of Scale Model Railroading Gallery”, changes that have occurred within the Gallery since the opening in 2021, and future plans for the items in the NMRA Museum Collection.
