Travel from the fictional city of Belmont to the city of San Joaquin in the San Joaquin Valley in Southern California in the 1950’s where both steam and diesel locomotives can be seen.  The mainline runs from Belmont to San Joaquin.  There is also a branch line from San Joaquin to Carbondale where standard gauge interchanges with the future narrow gauge extension. In addition, two return loops, one at each end, represent Los Angeles and Bakersfield.  The trip takes about 40 minutes at scale speeds.
