Paul Deis has been involved in model railroading for his entire life. His earliest memories are of his dad’s Lionel trains in the basement bedroom he shared with his two brothers. From that Lionel layout he moved to that new “N” scale in his teens, 1971. that is. He built several small layouts in “N” over the years and joined the San Luis Obispo Model Railroad Club about 25 years ago and moved into HO Modular railroading. He has held several offices with the SLOMRC including two terms as President. He was one of a small group that put together the original FreeMo standards that have now been adopted nationwide. In 2001 and 2014 he served as Chairman for the NMRA/PCR convention held in San Luis Obispo, CA. He has served the Daylight Division of the PCR as Superintendent and Clinic Chair. He has authored articles in the Daylight Observation and Branchline and has presented clinics on a variety of topics at all types of meets and conventions from division meets to national conventions. He has received 6 NMRA achievement awards so far and is close to being a Master Model Railroader.

His background is in Emergency Management and Hazardous Materials Training.

He is currently building an HO Layout depicting the SP Coastline from San Luis Obispo to San Miguel, CA as it was in November 1949. He also has built and run a 1:6 scale, 7 ½” gauge train that runs on a local railroad.
